kobi hagoel - rezume

Kobi Hagoel was born in Israel in 1962. A darbuka player from childhood, his musical development was influenced by musicians from throughout the middle east, among them the late Yaakov Morad, and Yosef Yaakov Shem -Tov. His formal studies included work on the Persian zarb with Yaakov Lev - Sameah. In addition to music, Kobi developed an early love of drama, and seriously pursued theater acting for 13 years. Since the mid 1990s, his major creative energies have been focused on music,
especially middle-eastern percussion. Kobi is cofounder, composer, percussion and vocalist for the band Kav Hatefer/Seam Line . He also performs with the East-West Ensemble and the Esfahan Ensemble and with the dance show, Jasmine's Magic Nights. Over the years, he has performed with many internationally-known musicians, including Yair Dalal (Israel), Sheva (Israel), Raanana Symphony, Yehudit Tamir, Menashe Sasson , Morris al Madyuni (Algeria/France), Omar Faruk Tekbilek (Turkey/U.S.A.), Djivan Gasparyan (Armenia), Hisham abu Mayeteq(Jordan), Alim Qasimov (Azerbaijan) ,Ross Daly (Greece ), Basilis Kasouras (Greece) ,Ahmet Misrili (Turkey). Performed in annual Israel Festival for 5 times (1989-2003) with different projects.

In addition to being a highly accomplished performer, Kobi Hagoel is a dedicated teacher at The school of middle eastern music in Jerusalem, and researcher.

הספר ''אומנות הקצב במזרח'', מציג עבודה מחקרית מקיפה שנעשתה בנושא. הספר מציג סקירה מעמיקה של מעל ל – 400 מקצבים מאזורים גאוגרפיים שונים מצפון אפריקה, המזרח התיכון, יוון, טורקיה ומדינות ערב. הספר עשיר בתמונות והסברי ביצוע וטכניקה וכן כולל ששה דיסקים בהם מודגמים כל המקצבים המדוברים.

the book represents less than the cost of a single drum, I have hundreds of drums but this is the key to unlock many of them. I say bite the bullet, pay the price and be thankful that you didn't have to spend the time re-tracing these arduous and time consuming research paths.

I come away from this publication enriched as a player and fellow drum enthusiast with immense respect for Kobi the player, the researcher the author and the communicator.
